I had a fantastic stay at the Old School hostel in Dalwhinnie. The location was perfect, just a short walk away from a charming cafe and the Dalwhinnie distillery. The facilities were spotlessly clean and the room I stayed in was comfortable and tastefully decorated with vintage rail posters. The communal areas, including the well-equipped kitchen and cozy living room with a log burner, were great for socializing with fellow guests. The hostel even had a small shop in case you forgot to bring any food. The best part was the amazing views of the mountains and the opportunity to spot beautiful wildlife on the grounds. The beds were unbelievably comfortable, giving me the best night's sleep I've had in a hostel. I highly recommend this hostel for its excellent location, cleanliness, and friendly atmosphere.
Although the hostel was wonderful, it's worth noting that it only has shared bathroom facilities. the proprietor's lack of concern when faced with an issue was disappointing.

A wonderful conversion of a traditional village school, the Old School Hostel in Dalwhinnie is ideally located close to many Munros and next to a National Cycle Route. the hostel itself is a proper old school, with a well-stocked and spacious kitchen, as well as a relaxing and friendly communal area. the atmosphere is enhanced by a log burner and great company from fellow guests. Our host Lee was knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming. Our private room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated with old rail posters. We enjoyed beautiful views of the mountains and even spotted a stunning Merlin on the hostel grounds. Self-catered, but everything we needed was readily available. the rooms were a good size with ample storage space for walking gear. the meeting areas were roomy and there was a lovely link with a nearby pub for evening refreshments. Outside, there was plenty of space, including a great garden with tables for gatherings and friendly ducks for company. Cons: Nothing for me 😊.

The rooms were spacious and had ample storage for all our walking gear. The common areas were roomy and cozy, especially with the evening fire that the host, Lee, would keep burning. The hostel also has a great link with a nearby pub, perfect for evening refreshments. Outside, there was plenty of space to enjoy, with a beautiful garden and friendly ducks for company. our experience at Old School was fantastic.
One drawback we noticed was the lack of an upstairs washroom and WC. this was just a minor inconvenience and didn't take away from our overall satisfaction with the hostel.

The common room and kitchen were spacious and well-equipped. The hostel even had a real fire, which added to the cozy atmosphere. The location was perfect, being close to the train station and within walking distance of the famous distillery. Plus, the hostel provided free WiFi, which worked well.
The public path to the loch was initially difficult to find due to a blocked rail crossing, but there is a bypass available. , there is no shop in the village except for the distillery, so make sure to bring your own food.
